Vinyasa, Yin and Acro Yoga

Vinyasa YogaRetreat into the rainforest with yoga instructors Kelly Lubeck and Sandy Ames to practice Vinyasa, Yin, and AcroYoga surrounded by the sights and sounds of the tropics in La Anita's new open-air yoga studio.

Vinyasa Yoga involves movement from asana (yoga posture) to asana, connecting the breath to the movement. In this practice, we focus on building strength, flexibility, balance, and alignment, while cultivating mindfulness.

Acro Yoga

AcroYoga is a combination of partner yoga, acrobatics, and thai massage. If you can do a yoga class, you can do AcroYoga!!  We'll teach you step by step how to transform your practice into flying and thai'ing.  It is both therapeutic and fun!

All levels are welcome. Modifications and adjustments will be provided for differing levels and different physical needs, making this practice accessible to yoga practitioners of all levels.

In addition to group yoga classes, for an additional cost you can sign up for a private yoga class with Kelly or Sandy, Reiki, and Thai Massage sessions.

Ecotourism Activities

hiking photo

Beyond indulging in two daily yoga classes, you will get to explore La Anita Rainforest Ranch through a tour of our orchards and gardens and horseback ride through the town of Colonia Libertad. Each day of the Rainforest Yoga Retreat, Elizabeth Hubley will guide you on an ecotourism adventure. Zip through the canopy, relax in healing hot springs and mud baths, and meet local sculptor Tony Jimenez at his workshop and art gallery.

For those interested in becoming immersed in daily life on the farm and in the community, during afternoon breaks you can work in the organic gardens and tropical flower orchards or with children at the local elementary school.

Please see the Ecotourism Activities page for more descriptions and links.

Lodging - Your Rainforest Cabin

inside cabinLodging at La Anita is in cabins built from tropical wood harvested from trees on our plantation. They are simple and elegant, and are constructed so that large screen windows allow the sounds, aromas, and breezes of the rainforest to enter your home away from home. The cabins may be configured with one king bed or two twin beds, and each one has a private bathroom with hot water shower, ceiling fan, small refrigerator, coffee maker, and dresser. Spacious outdoor decks on each cabin are the perfect place to relax cabin photoin handmade rocking chairs and hammocks.

Just a short walk away is the ranch deck where we share meals, and meet to depart for various activities. The village of Colonia Libertad is just a ten minute walk from your cabin as well. In the village there is a small store, elementary school, church, public phone, bar and soccer field.

Dining - Local Cuisine

Vegetable HarvestLa Anita Rainforest Ranch will introduce you to delicious tropical fruit and foods you will never forget! Retreat meals are prepared at the ranch by women from the village and served family-style. The meals are creative variations on traditional Costa Rican cuisine, made with plenty of organic produce grown at La Anita.

mamonchino photoMost fruits and vegetables are picked right out of our organic garden. As part of the retreat experience you will have the option to learn to prepare some of these exotic dishes (such as heart of palm ceviche) so you can impress your friends and family when you return home. Vegetarian options are always available and we can accommodate other dietary needs upon request.

Weather

La Anita Ranch is located in the heart of the Costa Rican Rainforest, where you can expect stunning landscapes, brilliant colors in nature, and amazing wildlife! lake photoThe chance to witness a tropical rainforest shower from within the comfort of your cabin is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The temperature is very pleasant (70s to 80s) during the day and cooler in the evenings.

The weather in the rainforest is unpredictable, but is always a lovely mix of sun and showers. All planned local activities and yoga classes will carry on, rain or shine, as we are accustomed to all weather conditions.

Wildlife and Insects

bug photoThe Rincón de la Vieja National Park, adjacent to La Anita Rainforest Ranch, contains more biodiversity than all of North America. Toucans, tanagers, and many species of hummingbirds visit the deck, yoga studio, garden, and cabins daily. Monkeys patrol the surrounding forest and provide a unique audio background. Other mammals including the pizote (coatimundi), guatusa (agouti), danta (tapir), puma, ocelot, and jaguar roam the forests surrounding the ranch.

We recommend participants wear insect repellent on hikes and adventures to warn off biting insects. The cabins are fully screened to let in rainforest breezes but prevent insects from entering.
